New Animal Ethics Society Launched

4th March 2008

The Centre is delighted to announce the launch of a new Animal Ethics Society for undergraduates and graduate students at Oxford University.

The officers for the current academic year are as follows:

President: Jenny Meszaros (final year undergraduate in Classics at St Hilda’s College, Oxford), Secretary: Sarah Cullinan (Research Student in Classics at Oriel College, Oxford), and Treasurer: Amrita Ghosh (final year undergraduate in Classics at St Hilda’s College, Oxford). Professor Andrew Linzey is the Senior Member. The Society was officially launched on 26th February 2008, and aims to work with the Centre in pioneering ethical perspectives on animals. It arranges a programme of meetings and social events each term.

“Our Society provides a regular and informal forum for the discussion of ideas”, commented Jenny Meszaros. “We think that our treatment of animals is an important moral issue and deserves serious consideration. It has been great to see lively, convivial debates at our meetings so far, and we look forward to many more”.

People who would like to join are welcome to email Jenny Meszaros at jenny.meszaros@st-hildas.ox.ac.uk or Sarah Cullinan at oxfordanimalethics@hotmail.com.
